Evaluation: how did you use media technologies in the research and planning, construction and evaluation stages of your coursework?

Image
During the research, planning, construction and evaluation stages of my advanced media portfolio - which included a film poster, double page film review and short film -  I used many different forms of technology to gather research and information in order to get my products to their current state.   Furthermore, I used various programmes, equipment and websites that enabled my research, planning and construction process to go smoothly. This use of technology made the creation of my advanced portfolio possible and without the existence of these things, it is highly unlikely that my portfolio would have been created or produced to the highest standard necessary.   An important technological element of my A2 production was setting up a blog - this helped me to produce my three products and display them, showing all of the research and planning I had gathered for my portfolio in individual and personal blogs. Blogger is the website that I utilised...

Evaluation: what have you learned from your target audience feedback?

Image
Audience feedback is an essential element of post-production as it allows us to find out what the audience liked and disliked about our film. Most importantly, the feedback that we receive tells us whether or not the audience understood the film which has been created for their viewing. Feedback also enables us to review and critique our production to ensure a successful release.   The primary target audience for 'Matryoshka' is ideally females between the age of 15-24.   First of all, I asked my target audience what they thought about my ancillary products:   What genre do you think the film is just by looking at the movie poster and double page spread? Horror/thriller Horror Horror Thriller Horror Did the poster and double page spread make you want to watch it? ...

Evaluation: how effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks?

After filming my short psychological horror, I then started to set out on making the ancillary products that would go along-side the film. I decided to create a film poster and a double page spread from a film review magazine. It was very important that my film was presented in these three media forms as it ensured that the target audience could be informed about the film on all media platforms. The ancillary products are featured below:       However, before creating my poster and double page spread, I completed quite a lot of research into existing horror films and their promotion campaigns to see what conventions they include across all three products to make their films successful, in terms of it reaching the target audience and achieving a sense of 360-degree branding. For me, I felt that it was extremely important that my three products - film, poster and DPS - followed the conventions of these films so that they coul...

Evaluation: In what ways does the product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Image
Forms and conventions define a genre, thus creating expectations that contribute to audience pleasures. The horror genre, with psychological horror as a sub-genre, has unique conventions that make it distinguishable from other genres. In order to understand these unique forms and conventions of horror films, I conducted some research before carrying out my production - in particular, I researched the conventions of my chosen genre, which was psychological.   In my research, I discovered that psychological films differ greatly from the average slasher film. In my personal opinion, I believe this is why I chose to make a short film of the psychological genre - it's different and unconventional, which I like. In a typical slasher, the source of fear is usually derived from the creatures, monsters or serial killers that are present - however, with psychological horror, discomfort is created by exposing common psychological and emotional vulnerabilities, and by ...
