My Target Audience

The primary target audience for our film will be aimed at teenaged to young adult females, ideally within the age group of 15-24. Anyone below the age of 15, I'd be quite wary about as this will be a horror film after all - there may be some 'distressing scenes.' 

Males are welcome to watch the film - they may relate with the male protagonist, however because this is a psychological horror I believe it will attract more to girls rather than boys as boys usually opt for gory and slasher horror films - they don't have the patience for the ambiguity and plot twists.

They must be interested in psychological horror films such as Psycho and Split, obviously. However, as the film will be a short-film, our viewers will typically already be avid film watchers.

Religion, race and sexuality is irrelevant as anyone can enjoy a film regardless of these factors.

Similarly, in relation to what socio-economic group my target audience will fall into, I don't think they can all be put into one particular group. Everyone likes different things, and as the film will be uploaded to YouTube, it will be free, and therefore easy to access.

Regardless of all this, as the short film will concern mental health, it could be directed at those who are interested in psychology also. Therefore, students, psychologists etc. will be our secondary audience.

    Some good thoughts here about your target audience . It might be helpful to write a description of your typical viewer - description of their personality; what they do in their spare time; their family background ; occupation etc.

Inner form and Outer form

For every film, there are always two sections; the inner form and the outer form. The concept of the inner form represents the film's thematic qualities which can account for themes, morals, messages, characters, and storylines. A typical storyline of the horror genre would be when a boy and girl are at an isolated location, camping in the woods for example, and a 'villain' finds them and kills them because one is more stupid than the other. On the other hand, the outer form refers to the iconography of the film - what makes it so special, so iconic. The outer form involves the film's location, colour, marketing and mise en scene which involves anything that one can see in a scene - props, weather, lighting, facial expressions etc.

Evaluation: how effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks?

After filming my short psychological horror, I then started to set out on making the ancillary products that would go along-side the film. I decided to create a film poster and a double page spread from a film review magazine. It was very important that my film was presented in these three media forms as it ensured that the target audience could be informed about the film on all media platforms.
